WHY DRIVE AN AUTOMATIC ?
Automatic cars have long been the choice of the United States and much of the rest of the world It’s only in Europe, and especially in the UK, that it has been thought “if you don´t drive a manual car, then you are not a ´real’ driver.”
We make everything else in our lives easier so, why do we still struggle on with manual cars? The rest of the world has known for years that automatics are easier to control and can therefore make you a safer driver.
WHAT IS AN AUTOMATIC ?
In a manual car, you have three pedals – the accelerator, the brake, and the clutch. You also have up to 6 forward gears, and one reverse gear. The accelerator doesn’t necessarily make you go faster, depending on what you do with the clutch and the gears, and the brake pedal can cut the engine out if you don’t use the clutch and the gears at the right time.
In an automatic (at it’s simplest) :- you use 1 forward gear (DRIVE) and 1 reverse gear. Once in drive, the accelerator will speed you up, and the brake will slow you down. One foot does all the work – go, go faster, slow and stop.
How easy is that?
IF IT’S GOOD ENOUGH FOR LEWIS AND JENSON………...
Formula One cars are technically automatics in that they do not have a clutch pedal. Most high performance Sports Cars, ( Jaguar, Aston Martin, Ferrari, Lamborghini etc) do not have a clutch pedal and are therefore automatics. With all car manufacturers looking for ways to make their vehicles more efficient, a modern automatic can be more fuel efficient than their manual counterpart.
So, from the smallest city car up to the biggest 4x4, each will have an automatic model, (most HGV tractor units are now automatic) So there will be an automatic car to suit your needs.
The next generation of cars (electric and hybrid) are all being designed as automatics, so eventually manual gearboxes will be the optional extra.
SO, WHY NOT YOU ?
If you have tried learning to drive in a manual and found it difficult, or, you need to learn to drive quickly, why not try a taster lesson. Just a short try out lesson to see if you like driving an automatic, only £10.00.
